International Transfer of Credits

Transferring Indian University Credits to the USA, Europe, and Australia

Students who have completed coursework at an Indian university and wish to continue their education abroad can often transfer their academic credits to institutions in the USA, Europe, and Australia. However, the transferability of credits depends on several factors including the accreditation of the Indian institution, the relevance of the completed courses, and the equivalency policies of the receiving university.

Credit Transfer Overview by Region

🇺🇸 United States

Most U.S. universities require Indian transcripts to be evaluated by credential evaluation agencies such as WES (World Education Services), ECE, or SpanTran. Transfer decisions are based on:

  • Course equivalency

  • Academic level

Grades obtained
Students may be eligible for advanced standing in undergraduate or graduate programs, depending on the institution's policy.

🇦🇺 Australia

Australian institutions generally accept qualifications from UGC-recognized Indian universities. A significant milestone in this area is the Australia-India Education Qualification Recognition Mechanism, signed in March 2023.

📝 Australia-India Education Treaty (2023)

The Mechanism for the Mutual Recognition of Qualifications between India and Australia is a bilateral treaty that establishes direct recognition of each other’s educational qualifications. Key highlights include:

  • Mutual recognition of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees

  • Eases the credit transfer process

  • Applies to higher education providers recognized by both countries
This treaty enhances transparency and reduces redundancy in course recognition, streamlining
    student mobility and educational collaboration.

General Requirements for Credit Transfer

  • Official transcripts and consolidated mark sheets

  • Course descriptions/syllabi with learning objectives and hours

  • University’s grading scale and academic calendar

  • Credential evaluation report (if required by the host university)

Important Notes

  • Credit transfer is not automatic; it is subject to individual university review

  • Each institution reserves the right to accept, reject, or partially recognize previous credits

  • Early consultation with international admission advisors is strongly recommended

Immigration Pathways

Students with qualifications in CybersecurityArtificial Intelligence (AI), and Robotics have excellent international pathways to pursue higher education, work, and migration in Europe, the United States, and Australia. Europe offers research-intensive programs and employment through initiatives like the EU Blue Card, while the US provides extended STEM OPT work rights, H-1B visa options, and access to world-class tech institutions.

In Australia

In Australia, demand for skilled tech professionals is surging, with the Australian Computer Society (ACS) formally recognizing specialized roles like Cyber Security Engineer (ANZSCO 261315)Penetration Tester (261317)Data Analyst (224114), and Data Scientist (224115), among others. These roles are part of Australia’s Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL) and are eligible for the new Skills in Demand (SID) visa, enabling easier migration and long-term career prospects. International graduates in Australia benefit from post-study work visaspermanent residency pathways, and industry-aligned migration skill assessments through ACS. With projections showing Australia needs over 1.3 million tech workers by 2030, this is an ideal time for students in these domains to explore global careers.

In United States of America

In the United States, international students in STEM fields benefit from the Optional Practical Training (OPT) program, which allows up to 12 months of work post-graduation, with an additional 24-month extension for STEM graduates, totaling 36 months of work authorization. This period enables graduates to gain practical experience and potentially transition to long-term employment through the H-1B visa program. The H-1B visa permits U.S. employers to hire foreign workers in specialty occupations, including roles in AI, cybersecurity, and robotics. However, the annual cap of 85,000 visas can make this pathway competitive.

In Europe

In Europe, the demand for professionals in Cybersecurity, AI, and Robotics is robust and growing. The European Commission has announced a €1.3 billion investment in these sectors through the Digital Europe Programme for 2025–2027, aiming to bolster digital skills and technological sovereignty. This investment supports initiatives like the EU Cybersecurity Reserve and the establishment of sectoral digital skills academies. Job opportunities are abundant across the continent, with platforms like the Informatics Europe Job Platform listing positions in AI, machine learning, and robotics. Institutions such as the Artificial Intelligence Center at CTU Prague and the University of Edinburgh's School of Informatics offer research and academic positions in these fields.
